Police called to a report of a burglary in Staple Hill found what they believe to be a cannabis factory inside the property.
Shortly before 1pm yesterday officers went to Portland Street after a member of the public reported that the door of a neighbouring property had been forced.
It seemed that no one was living in the rented property, but officers discovered three tents inside that were being used to grow plants believed to be cannabis. One had been cleared but around 25 mature plants were found in the other two.
The property was cleared of all plants and growing equipment by a team from Operation Viscount, a specialist team dedicated to tackling cannabis production across the Avon and Somerset policing area.
Neighbourhood PC Wayne Hodge said: “I’d like to thank the person who called to report their suspicions of criminal activity. We have seized the plants which have been sent for tests to confirm whether they are cannabis.
“I’d ask anyone with any information which can help our inquiries into this incident to get in touch through the website or by calling 101, quoting reference 50862/14. Alternatively call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call.”
As we reported yesterday, police have also uncovered a suspected cannabis factory in a house in Grange Avenue, Hanham, this week, thanks to a tip-off from a member of the community.
