A serious accident involving a car and a cyclist on the A4 near the Broadmead roundabout in Keynsham caused massive traffic chaos in and around the town on Friday night when the High Street was closed for the Victorian Evening.
There were reports of motorists being stuck in traffic for up to two hours with tailbacks of up to six miles.
The accident between the cyclist and a Mazda car occurred at around 3.45pm. The cyclist was a 40-year-old woman from Keynsham who suffered a head injury.
She was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath. Police say her injury was not life-threatening.
The A4 was reopened shortly before 7pm.
