People lined the streets of Kingswood town centre today to welcome veterans, marching bands, Army and Air Cadets, members of the Scouting movement and military vehicles as South Gloucestershire celebrated Armed Forces Day. Half an hour before the start of the march, hail stones rained down on Kingswood. But it didn’t last for long and there was no rain for the parade which began in Kimberley Road and finished in Kingswood Park, where there were performances, stalls and activities for all the family to enjoy. Chair of South Gloucestershire Council, Cllr Howard Gawler, officially open the event. A Drum Head remembrance ceremony, officiated by the Rev Canon Peter Huzzey took place, followed by live performances from soloists Rachael Hunt and Katie Salt, a community choir and the 93 City of Bath Air Training Corps Band. There were activities including an inflatable slide and climbing wall, as well as blue light vehicles including fire engines and police cars. Local organisations including the Friends of Kingswood Park and Kingswood Heritage Museum had stalls. |
