The sinkhole that opened up on Cecil Road in Kingswood on Wednesday has now been repaired by Wessex Water and resurfacing works are continuing.
The hole was due to a broken pipe, it has been revealed. Tonight South Gloucestershire Council said that vehicles can now pass and the road is expected to be fully open by Sunday morning at the latest.
Traffic was diverted but the council’s streetworks team and Wessex Water worked together to sort our access deliveries to the nearby Lidl store and other businesses.
The opening of the sinkhole followed torrential rain which has caused flooding problems in other areas locally, including Whitchurch Village, Mangotsfield, and the Golden Valley.
Meanwhile Wessex Water teams were carrying out emergency repair work in Bitton today after reports of sewage being discharged into the River Boyd.
