Kingswood restaurant highlighted in TV exposé on food industry

fsaA popular Kingswood restaurant has been highlighted in a BBC documentary for its zero hygiene rating.

Inside Out West revealed that 66 premises in the west of England – including 11 in Bath & North East Somerset, six in Bristol and two in South Gloucestershire – have been given a zero rating for their hygiene.

Zero means urgent improvement is necessary. Among them is the Rupali Tandoori in Two Mile Hill, which the programme makers revealed was nonetheless displaying a five-star rating in its window.

Councils work with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to score premises between zero and five. Each hygiene rating is available to view online at http://ratings.food.gov.uk/ but businesses are not forced to display their rating on their premises.

The Rupali, which got the zero rating in July, is rated as four or five-star by many reviewers on the TripAdvisor website.

Comments include: “This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Bristol.”

The Inside West programme is available to watch on BBC iPlayer all this week.
