Merlin Housing Society is investing £200,000 in the first phase of a project to regenerate the area in and around the blocks of flats in Pendennis Road, Staple Hill.

The landscape around the four blocks of flats will be transformed by the planting of flowers, shrubs and fruit trees, together with new bicycle parking areas.

Around 100 people attended a free activity day to find out more about the plans for the estate.

“It was a really good event,” said community investment officer David Triggle-Wells. “We had lots of families come along and find out about the improvements, making their own window boxes and doing some autumn art work. People could also bring their bike along for a service and find out about sustainable transport.

“We had lots of good comments about the plans so now we’re putting out a tender for someone to carry out the improvements, so we can start work in the new year. We’re aiming to have all the landscape improvements completed by the spring.”
