Teenager in custody after suspected drugs found in Staple Hill

police logoPolice arrested a teenager and seized a number of plants believed to be cannabis at house in Staple Hill this morning.

Officers searched the house just before 9am and found more than 50 plants growing in two rooms of the house.

A 19-year-old man is in police custody on suspicion of producing cannabis.

DS Jason Hulbert said: “The property is being made safe by the electricity provider and will be cleared of all plants and growing equipment by a team from Operation Viscount, a specialist team dedicated to tackling cannabis production across the Avon & Somerset policing area.

“Criminals often rent properties in residential areas to grow cannabis, and we often have to call in the power companies to deal with dangerous electrics used to heat and light the plants.

“We really rely on local people reporting their suspicions. You might know of a house where the windows are covered, no one seems to live there but people come and go at odd hours – and of course the cannabis has a distinctive smell.”
