Sun shines for South Gloucestershire’s Armed Forces Day

drumhead ceremonycadetsArmed Forces Day was celebrated in South Gloucestershire today with a parade through Staple Hill to Page Park for a drumhead ceremony.

Among those taking part in the march, which set off from the Royal British Legion, were veterans, cadets, bands and the Salvation Army, followed by military vehicles.

Among those marching was Filton & Staple Hill MP Jack Lopresti, himself an Army veteran, who served with 29 Commando RA as a mobilised reservist for a year, and local Help for Heroes fundraiser Frankie Johns.

The service in the park was conducted by the Rev Teresa Taylor.

Bristol will be marking Armed Forces Day tomorrow in Queen Square between 10am and 4pm. The day’s events begin with a parade from College Green to Queen Square, where an outdoor drumhead service will take place in the presence of the Lord Mayor and Lord Lieutenant of Bristol.
