Six people were arrested and sound equipment was seized following an unlicensed music event in the old Chequers pub on Lodge Road last night.
At about 10.30pm police were called to the old pub, where more than 100 people were trespassing.
Police say a “significant” number of officers were deployed during the operation to stop further people attending and to close the event down safely.
Temporary Superintendent Catherine Johnstone said: “Unlicensed music events pose a serious risk to public safety and our primary focus was to use all the necessary policing resources to bring the event to a safe conclusion.
“Events can pose a real and substantial risk to safety when they’re not properly managed or licensed and cause distress to residents living nearby through the resulting noise and disruption.
“We’re now carrying out an investigation to ensure all criminal offences are pursued. We’ll also be liaising with the landowner to ensure this premises is properly secured to prevent any re-occurrence.
“I’d like to thank the local community for alerting us to the incident and for their patience and support while we dealt with it.”
