Staple Hill Community Action Against Racism will be holding a rally in Page Park on Saturday morning.
People will be gathering at 10.30am on the cricket pitch in front of the Bean Tree Café to ‘take the knee’ for eight minutes and 46 seconds – the length of time associated with the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last month – in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
There will also be a discussion about how we can fight racism together locally. Speakers will share their experience of working in local anti-racism initiatives and projects.
Organisers say the event will be peaceful and family-friendly. Those attending are asked to observe social distancing and encouraged to wear a mask.
There will be materials for placard-making available for children from 9.45am.
