Police team give out seasonal crime prevention tips in Longwell Green and Hanham

crime warningPolice have been out and about encouraging people to be more security-conscious as traditionally there is an increase in thefts of bikes and from cars in the summer.

The Hanham and Longwell Green Neighbourhood Team visited Gallagher Retail Park recently where they gave out vehicle crime prevention advice and looked for any cars which had been left insecure or with property on view.

And PCSO Skye Kurylo visited Hanham Youth Club and marked 19 bicycles and scooters. She also advised the teenagers to register their bikes and other property, such as mobile phones and MP3 players on Immobilise, the national property register – www.immobilise.com

PCSO Kurylo said: “This is a safe place to live, but it’s still important to make sure you mark your property so that if it is stolen we’re able to identify the rightful owner. That helps to deter thieves, as does making sure you lock up every time you leave your bike or car.”
