Police have named the 63-year-old man charged with the murder of Melanie Road as Christopher John Hampton, of Fishponds.
Melanie was 17 and studying for her A-levels when she was murdered in Bath in June 1984.
Hampton has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Bath Magistrates’ Court on Monday (6/7).
Senior Investigating Officer Det Insp Julie Mackay said: “We’ve been keeping Melanie’s family fully updated on the progress of this investigation and they’re aware of this latest development.”
