A crash in Saltford last night in which a pensioner had to be cut free from the wreckage of his car caused huge tailbacks as the road was closed for an hour and a half.
A police spokesman said the accident happened at 6.25pm near Avon County Rowing Club and involved an Audi A4 and a Vauxhall Insignia.
“A man in his mid-60s was trapped in the Vauxhall and was cut free by fire crews. He had facial injuries, not life-threatening.
“He and the male driver of the Audi, who suffered minor injuries, were treated at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. The road was opened at 8pm.”
The traffic hold-ups were made worse that drivers could not use the A431 Bristol to Bath road as an alternative route as it remain closed at Kelston because of a landslide.
