Two people have been arrested in connection with Thursday’s attempted robbery on a Post Office security van parked outside shops on the Kingsway.
Police appealed for witnesses after the incident in which a man carrying a handgun approached the driver and tried to get inside.
The gunman was disturbed by a member of the public and ran off, getting into a red hatchback which drove up the Kingsway, into Westmead Road and onto Jockey Lane before being dumped. The man was seen running off along Jockey Lane and into Nags Head Hill.
Today two people were arrested – a man in his 50s on suspicion of attempted robbery and a woman in her 30s on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.
