Man in custody after more than 20 cars are damaged in Hanham

new police picPolice have arrested a man after more than 20 vehicles were damaged in Hanham last night.

Officers were called to Hencliffe Way and Rowan Way at 11.40pm by a member of the public reporting that a man was in the street shouting and damaging cars.

A man was detained at the scene at 11.48pm and officers discovered that that cars had been damaged.

Inspector Andy Peppin said: “We have officers in the area identifying damaged cars and taking details from the owners. Later today they will be supported by our volunteer Police Cadets.

“So far we have identified more than 20 damaged vehicles but if anyone living in the Hencliffe Way area thinks they have been affected we’d like to hear from them.

“Incidents can be reported through our website, www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact. We’re grateful to the member of the public who called to report the incident and would always encourage people to ring us if they see someone behaving suspiciously around vehicles in their neighbourhood.”

A 44-year-old man from Hanham, who was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, was in custody today.
