Man in court charged with murdering Kingswood mum and her daughter

A 50-year-old man has appeared in court in Scotland today charged with murdering the missing South Gloucestershire mother Bennylyn Burke and one of her children.

Police attended a property in Dundee around 3.20pm last Friday as part of an inquiry into the disappearance of Bennylyn, 25, and her two children, who were reported missing to Avon & Somerset Police on Monday 1st March.

She was reportedly last been seen at her home, believed to be in the Kingswood area, on Wednesday 17th February.

Andrew Innes, who was arrested by police last Friday, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court today.  He is alleged to have bludgeoned the young mother to death and murdered her two-year-old daughter Jellica by unknown means at his Troon Avenue home some time between 17th February and 5th March.

Police say Bennylyn’s second child has been traced and is being supported by police.

Innes was remanded in custody and is expected to make a second court appearance next week.

Forensics officers continue to search his home where there is a cordon. Detective Superintendent Graeme Mackie, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, has urged anyone with any information to come forward.
