Major roadworks will close motorway bridge for eight weeks

The Highways Agency have announced that starting on 6th July they will be carrying out major works on the bridge over the M4 near the Folly pub and Science Park at Emersons Green.

The bridge at Westerleigh Road will be closed 24/7 to vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists for eight weeks while it is completely refurbished and safety works are carried out.

Highways England operate, maintain and improve England’s motorways and major A roads and are also responsible for bridges and structures which cross the roads.

They say they worked closely with South Gloucestershire Council to find the best dates to work on the bridge deck which carries traffic over the M4 between junctions 18 and 19.

The work will include concrete repairs, re-waterproofing, resurfacing, joint replacement and painting of the parapet.

Locally signed diversions will be in place. The works are scheduled to finish on 29th August.
