The slide has been badly damaged
The play park at Redfield Hill in Oldland Common is closed after vandals wreaked havoc, causing around £6,000 of damage.
Bitton Parish Council said it was saddened to report that the children’s play area had suffered “significant vandalism”.
A council spokesperson said: “A group of youths gathered on Saturday evening and lit a fire with aerosols under the main play frame, damaging the safety flooring and underneath the main equipment.

Fire damage to the safety flooring
“They also with nailed wood have damaged the slide, making it unsafe for any child to slide down as it has pierced the metal. All signage has been ripped down and broken in half so currently we have padlocked the gate.
“For safety concerns the play park will now remain closed until we are able to replace the damaged equipment and safety flooring.”
Anyone with information about Saturday’s incident is asked to call 101, quoting crime reference number 5223073698.
Last year the fencing was broken and youths ran round the neighbouring allotment site.
