South Gloucestershire Council’s StreetCare department has today taken the “difficult decision” to cancel the rest of this week’s garden waste collections in order to focus on completing recycling collections.
It said: “While we understand this will be frustrating and inconvenient for those who use the garden waste service, it will help us to get back on track as quickly as possible and minimise disruption of these services.
“If your weekly recycling collection was missed yesterday (Wednesday) it will now be collected on Saturday. Please put your containers out by 7am.
“We are very sorry for the short notice and will contact residents about their garden waste subscriptions.
“The delays to collections have been a result of staff having to self-isolate due to COVID-19 and the extreme heat which has slowed recycling crews down over the last few days.”
The council said it would continue to monitor the situation with its waste contractor SUEZ: “We hope collections will be back to normal next week, but will keep you updated if any changes are necessary. Thank you for all your supportive comments and patience so far and please keep recycling.”
