Poppy Appeal launched at Garden of Remembrance

The annual Poppy Appeal launch was held at the Garden of Remembrance at Payne Green at Barrs Court this morning.

Among those attending were representatives of the Bitton & Oldland branch of the Royal British Legion, as well as from Oldland and Bitton parish councils and the leader of South Gloucestershire Council Toby Savage.

A short service was led by the Rev Steve Britton during which there was a two-minute silence. The Last Post and Reveille were sounded by Rob Tyley.

Among those planting crosses were children from Barrs Court Primary School who also laid a poppy wreath they had created from hand prints.

Poppies are on sale at Asda at Longwell Green from tomorrow.
