Knife crime awareness session for parents in Keynsham

A knife crime awareness event aimed at parents will be held at The Space in Keynsham later this month.

The aim is to increase awareness of key issues surrounding knife crime, empowering parents and children to make informed and positive decisions to stay safe.

The event on Monday 27th November is being organised by the Bath & North East Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership. It works to understand and address the root causes of violence to prevent further violent crimes and provides resources and supports the work of professionals and community groups which help children at risk or involved in serious violence.

The event is supported by partner agencies including Avon & Somerset Police, Project 28, which is a young people’s drug and alcohol service, Youth Connect South West and the NHS.

Those attending will have the opportunity to hear the lived experience of a parent who has been personally affected by knife crime. There will also be a presentation by the national charity StreetDoctors, which puts young people at the centre of emergency first aid provision and empowers them to become part of the solution to violence.

The Week In has featured several stories in recent months highlighting concerns about anti-social behaviour in Keynsham. In September (Issue 799) we reported on a new initiative by Avon & Somerset Police, the NHS and defibrillator supplier HeartSafe to install ‘bleed kits’ in the force area to prevent deaths from knife crime. The kits can be used in any incident in which a person is suffering from a catastrophic bleed.

The first one was unveiled outside Keynsham Library on the wall next to the defibrillator. Another, along with a defibrillator, has also now been installed at Manor Road playing fields in Keynsham (pictured above).

The event at The Space will also be a panel discussion with the opportunity to ask questions which should be submitted prior to the event by email to VRU_Events@BATHNES.GOV.UK

Spaces at the event, which runs from 6pm to 8pm, are limited. Book via Eventbrite at https://tinyurl.com/ycksfz7x
