Wilko in Kingswood closes for the last time

Customers are mourning the closure of Wilko in Kingswood.

Staff at the anchor store in Kings Chase Shopping Centre gave people the chance to share their thoughts before it closed for good yesterday.

On a noticeboard in the store it said that “as the sun sets over Wilko Kingswood” the team want to thank all our customers over the last 26 years.

“We’ve laughed with you and been proud to be there through the thick and thin of the last few years to serve you. We will miss you all.”

“If you feel you would like to leave a message for the team then please use a post it note and stick it to this board.”

Comments included: “Thank you for your friendly service and helpfulness over the years. You will leave a very big hole in Kingswood.”

Another said: ““I got so many useful things from here. It will feel like the heart is missing from Kings Chase.”

The chain fell into administration in August. Some Wilko units across the country have been saved by rival discount firms B&M and Poundland, and The Range has bought the Wilko brand in a reported £5m deal.
