Plans for nine homes in Whitchurch Village

Oaklea in Sleep Lane

There is a new outline planning application for nine homes on Green Belt land in Whitchurch Village.

The site is the garden next to Oaklea in Sleep Lane. The scheme includes access improvements and off-street car parking.

Previous bids to develop the site going back to 1999 have been refused but the most recent – for three bungalows – was granted on appeal last year.

Bath & North East Somerset Council had said it would be inappropriate development within the Green Belt, was outside of the housing development boundary, and had concerns about visibility splays; however, the planning inspector concluded that the proposals would represent limited infilling and would not harm the Green Belt.

The latest planning application says that the village has seen significant growth in recent years, with large developments constructed near the site. “This has vastly changed the context of the area in which the site is located.”

It also says that the principle of residential development has already been confirmed by the planning inspector’s decision last year.

The planning reference for the latest scheme is 23/02922/OUT. The deadline for comments is Wednesday 6th September.
