Staple Hill Stores will close at the end of September unless someone comes forward to buy the business.
The shop has been up for rent for some time as owner Jill Barnes is retiring, but no one has yet come forward to take over the business, which is a traditional ironmongers, hardware and pet supplies store.
The award-winning shop is known locally as Arkwrights, a reference to the one in TV sitcom Open All Hours.
There has been much support voiced on Facebook by the local community to Jill’s plea for anyone interested to get in touch.
Cllr Ian Boulton said: “Thanks so much for your efforts to sell the business as a going concern.”
His colleague Cllr Michael Bell said: “Staple Hill Stores has been a one-off and unique. To say we are sorry to see you go is an understatement.”
Other comments include “Staple Hill won’t be the same without you” and “Will be like the end of an era.”
