Firefighters are responding to a blaze at the disused Whitchurch Sports Centre in Bamfield and households in nearby Paddock Garden are being evacuated as a precaution..
Twelve appliances are on the scene from Kingswood, Temple, Bedminster, Bath, Southmead, Avonmouth, Patchway and Weston- super-Mare fire stations.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service have advised locals to keep windows closed.
They said: “We are joined at the scene by Avon & Somerset Police colleagues and road closures are in place along Bamfield, between the junction with Whitchurch Lane and Briery Leaze Road.”
The m1 metrobus is diverting via Oatlands Avenue, Fortfield Road and Whitchurch Lane.
UPDATE:
Avon Fire & Rescue Service say they have reduced their attendance at the incident but will remain at the scene into the evening, before a fire investigation is due to take place tomorrow morning.
