Council acts to make throughabout less confusing

Work has been carried out at the throughabout on the A4174 Ring |Road at Warmley to try to make it less confusing for motorists.

South Gloucestershire Council said: “We have recently installed louvred hoods on the signals which are aimed to ensure that the relevant lights are only visible to the drivers they are intended for and do not confuse motorists on other sections of the road.”

The throughabout, which has 26 traffic lights and cost almost £7m to build, opened last October with the aim of improving traffic flow but it has proved controversial and was the scene of a fatal collision in April.

Shortly after the throughabout opened, the council published a report following a public consultation about its bid for £30m Government funding to make changes to five other Ring Road roundabouts, including turning the Siston Hill, Deanery Road and Kingsfield junctions into throughabouts.

The majority of respondents were strongly opposed to any more throughabouts so the council said it would wait a year to assess the Wraxall Road junction before considering a new funding application. A decision is expected this autumn.
