Our thanks to Hanham Abbots Parish Council for these photos of the balloon launch at Hanham Common yesterday, one of the locations chosen to take part in this year’s Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.
Without any certainty when planning the event whether there would be limits on capacity for the usual annual event at the Ashton Court Estate, the organisers instead decided to deliver a number of launches across the city and region and have been running ‘Fiesta Fortnight’ with flypasts and ballooning spectaculars for the city this month.
Cllr Steve Hicks, chair of Hanham Abbots Parish Council, said: “We were approached by event management company REM who asked for the council’s permission to use the Common for a balloon launch.
“This had been suggested by the residents of Abbeyfield, the residential home next to the Common, and several of them, with carer Kerryanne, turned up and really enjoyed it.
“A number of locals, adults and children were there to see the launch which benefitted from lovely fine summer weather.”
