Firefighters have rescued a dog which fell into the fast-flowing River Frome at Oldbury Court.
Crews from Brislington and Bedminster fire stations were called after the Jack Russell fell down the steep river bank and into the river. Fortunately the pet, named Alfie, was able to reach the safety of the river bank, but was out of reach of rescuers.
Firefighters in dry suits and trained in swift water rescue entered the river upstream in an attempt to recover the stranded dog. Using tethers for safety, a firefighter was able to wade downstream to the dog.
He reached Alfie and safely collected him before being pulled back to colleagues using the tether ropes.
Alfie was then reunited with his walkers, apparently none the worse for his ordeal.
