Festival becomes a victim of the pandemic for a second year

This year’s Mangotsfield Festival, like last year’s, has been cancelled because of the ongoing pandemic.

The committee had to cancel last year’s event in June and had set a provisional date of 12th June for the 2021 festival but that too has now been called off.

They say the cancellations have given them a chance to reflect.

“It’s clear that the festival needs to change and evolve to better reflect what people want and expect from it,” said committee chair Chris Amos.

“Our current thinking is to run a different festival, made up of a number of events spread throughout the week, culminating in Festival Day itself which will still give local schools and organisations a chance to show what they can do but also have more family friendly ‘free stuff’ to excite, engage, amuse and entertain.

“We have a few ideas of the sorts of things we could do but, and it’s a big but. The existing committee is small and we are not as young as we were. To run a new style festival with more events and more ‘stuff’ will require many more people to get involved. So we’d love to hear what you want to see at the festival and love to see more people helping out.”

The festival is still able to award grants to local voluntary organisations to support their work in the community and in 2019/20 gave out more than £1,000.
