A new Cadbury Heath trader is applying for a licence to sell alcohol but the need for it is being called into question.
The former Martins newsagents at 54 Newton Road is under new management and called Cadbury Heath Local. The shop says it wants to sell alcohol to improve the viability of the business.
South Gloucestershire Council as the licensing authority has received an application from the shop which wants to sell alcohol from 6am to 11pm every day.
The application says there will be CCTV, staff will be trained in the prevention of under-age sales, spirits will be behind the counter and other alcohol on display will be in constant view of staff.
Oldland Parish Council’s Planning, Highways & Environment Committee met last night and resolved to object to the Cadbury Heath Local licensing application as there are already several outlets in the area selling alcohol.
The consultation deadline ends next Wednesday.
