Family escapes smoke-filled flat after fire in café below

groundedA young family in the flat above Grounded in Brislington woke in the early hours of today to find their home full of smoke as firefighters arrived to tackle a blaze at the café.

Four engines from Brislington, Temple and Bedminster fire stations were sent to the café in Sandy Park Road which was heavily smoke logged.

The fire was discovered in a store room and is thought to have started accidentally as a result of a fault in a boiler. Six firefighters in breathing apparatus used two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

Damage was caused to the store room, with smoke affecting the rest of the café as well as the flat. The family in the flat – including a baby girl – were reportedly shaken but unharmed.

The café hopes to reopen on Saturday once repair work has been carried out.

Grounded is an independent chain with cafés also in Keynsham, Fishponds, Redfield, Bedminster, Horfield and Corsham.
