Swimmer Siobhan Marie O’Connor today unveiled a plaque at Bitton Station marking her exceptional achievements.
The 19-year-old, who lives in Bitton, has won gold, silver and bronze medals in European, Commonwealth and World championships, and the parish council commissioned the plaque in her honour.
She was joined at the ceremony by family and friends including her parents Lindsey and Sean, and her brother Ciaran, 18.
The chair of Bitton Parish Council, Cllr Jane Allinson, said Siobhan-Marie was “our special local heroine” and “the perfect role model for young people in our parish”.
After the unveiling a reception was held at Bitton Station Buffet.
And tonight Siobhan-Marie, who trains for five hours a day at the University of Bath, is attending Bitton Village Residents’ Association’s annual general meeting to talk about her life as one of the world’s top swimmers.
She began her swimming career with Keynsham Swimming Club and is still a member.
