Woman from Kingswood dies after being swept out to sea at Croyde

coastguardThe holidaymaker who died after being swept out to sea at Croyde Bay in north Devon on New Year’s Eve was from Kingswood, it emerged today.

It is believed that the 42-year-old got into difficulty while  bodyboarding in rough seas shortly after 11am on New Year’s Eve.

Despite search attempts by a search and rescue helicopter, coastguard rescue and lifeboat crews she could not be found until she was removed from the water at around 1pm. She was airlifted to North Devon District Hospital where attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

It is understood that the woman, who has not yet been named, was on holiday with her family.
