Izzy Gentry had been revising for her AS-levels when she was taken ill last week. She died on Friday morning the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

An inquest into the death of the 16-year-old, who formerly attended the John Cabot Academy in Kingswood, is expected to be opened next week.

Antibiotics have been given to her close friends and information has been provided to the college about the signs and symptoms to look out for.

Some of Izzy’s friends have decided to cycle to the border of Scotland in August to raise money for the charity Meningitis Now in her memory. Already they have raised more than £2,100 towards their target of £2,500.

Meanwhile Izzy’s stepbrother George Booty, who lives in New Zealand, will be running the Auckland Half Marathon in her memory  to raise money for the charity Cure Kids, which works towards finding cures for serious illnesses that affect children.
