Woman fights off attacker on River Avon footpath

policePolice are appealing for witnesses after an attempted sexual assault on a 29-year-old woman as she was out jogging today.

The victim was on the River Avon footpath between Robertson Drive and Pilgrims Wharf in the St Anne’s Park area when she was grabbed by a man. She managed to fight him off and may have injured his eye.

Sgt James Wasiak said: “The victim managed to elbow the man in the face and run off but we’re treating this as an attempted sexual assault.

“He’s described as white, 6ft, around 40 years old, of average build and with a week’s worth of grey stubble. He was wearing a grey beanie hat, a dark hooded top and blue jeans and the victim believes he spoke with a local accent.

“Because the victim managed to fight him off, we believe he may have an injury to his right eye.

“We’re carrying out house-to-house inquiries and will be reviewing CCTV in the local area. We’ve also had the dog unit out in the local area to help gather evidence. We’d like to speak to anyone who saw a man matching the description in the local area, as well as anyone who has information which could help our investigation.”

The attack happened between 9.15am and 9.30am. If you can have information call the police on the 101 number.
