More than 30 travellers’ caravans are occupying a small section of Siston Common today.
Travellers began arriving on the land in front of the Horseshoe pub yesterday afternoon, holding up the traffic as they manoeuvred their way on to the common land.
Many are understood to be from the French travelling community and among the high-end vehicles on site include Porsche, Mercedes and Audi.
South Gloucestershire Council’s legal department has also been informed.
One resident told The Week In that local people were concerned for their safety and wellbeing with such a “vast, illegal encampment” so close to their home and there were public health issues surrounding human waste and rubbish.
Local councillor Ian Adams is pressing for the police to serve the travellers with issue a Section 61 notice (from the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act) informing them they have to leave.
