Plans for 295 homes in Whitchurch thrown out

100929stauntonfieldB&NES Council Development Control Committee voted unanimously to reject a second application by Robert Hitchins Ltd. to build 295 house on Green Belt land to the north of OrchardPark, Staunton Lane. Two years ago, a similar application was refused and the developer elected to go to appeal and then subsequently withdrew. Speaking on behalf of the Whitchurch Village Action Group, Mary Walsh said that they had received the support of 600 local residents, equivalent to 70% of the Whitchurch population, in objecting to the proposal. She also told committee members that the development would effectively join Whitchuch and Stockwood in the neighbouring Bristol City Council authority.  Bristol City Council had already objected to the proposal, stating it had no wish to see further development in the south west of its area.

The committee agreed with the planning officer recommendation to refuse the application on the grounds that it was an inappropriate development, harmful to the Green Belt which would contribute to the sprawl of Bristol.
