Plans to extend a Kingswood primary school so it can open its doors to more than 200 extra pupils have taken a step forward.
South Gloucestershire Council is planning to extend Beacon Rise Primary School in Hanham Road in two phases to raise the number of pupil places from 420 to 630.
Phase 1 is for a two-storey extension incorporating a replacement kitchen and a multi-purpose use room to replace the dilapidated kitchen and dining block, which dates from the 1940s.
The extension is planned to the side of one of the three Edwardian main school blocks. The new multi-purpose room will be used as a classroom until the completion of the six-classroom extension in Phase 2, which is due to be completed by the end of next year.
When the new kitchen is built, the existing kitchen and dining block will be knocked down and the space used as a play area to compensate for the playground that will be lost to the new extension.
The deadline for comments on the kitchen extension is July 22.
