Former prison officer to fight Kingswood for Labour at the next General Election

Former prison officer Josie Channer, pictured, has today been chosen to fight the Kingswood seat for Labour at the next General Election.

A hustings took place at Cadbury Heath Hall to select the candidate who Labour hopes will oust Kingswood’s Conservative MP Chris Skidmore.

He won the seat at the 2010 General Election, beating Labour’s Roger Berry.

Currently a councillor in Barking & Dagenham, Ms Channer is originally from Stratford, East London, and has been an active member of the Labour Party for 15 years.

Also on the Labour shortlist was Willsbridge woman  Rowena Hayward, a membership development officer at the GMB union, and Wandsworth councillor, Leonie Cooper.

Ms Channer tweeted tonight: “Delighted to have been selected as the Parliamentary Candidate by Kingswood’s Labour members to take on the Tories in 2015!”
