Police today said they believe the body of a young man pulled from the River Avon near Pill on Sunday afternoon is that of missing teenager Joseph Robinson.
Initial tests have been carried out and while further DNA tests are required to provide a formal identification, they believe the body is that of the 18-year-old who was last seen in Kingswood on 16th December.
The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.
At around 1.30pm on Sunday several calls were received from members of the public about a body in the river. Officers attended and with the assistance of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute the body was recovered from the water.
Det Insp Charlotte Tucker said: “We’ve informed Joseph’s family and they are understandably extremely distressed by this development. We’ll continue to support them through this difficult time.
“We’ll be carrying out further enquiries on behalf of the coroner’s office.”
