Police appealing for witnesses and information after a hay barn was destroyed by fire in Mangotsfield.
It happened at around 11.30 pm on Saturday 26th October at a farm at Shortwood Hill.
The road was closed while fire crews tackled the blaze and reopened at about 9 am on Sunday October 27. Avon Fire & Rescue Service later confirmed the fire was started deliberately.
DC Tracey Ormand said: “We are treating this as arson. We have spoken to a number of people who were driving past and have been able to narrow the time the fire started to between 11.15 pm and 11.45 pm. Witnesses also report a number of people stopping to take mobile phone photos or video of the fire. I would ask anyone who has not yet spoken to us who did pass the scene that evening to call me at South Gloucestershire CID on 101, quoting reference 107247/13.”
A man was arrested near the farm on the night of the fire, and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Anyone with any information can contact DC Ormand by calling 101. Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
